> Abstract

What was your favorite part about your UseIT experience?

My favorite part of the UseIT internship is the main field trip that is scheduled each summer to areas of interest concerning faults, trenches, or other places of Earthqauke information. This has propegated positive interaction between both Sure and UseIT interns that has been beneficial to me throughout the summer.

What would you recommend to future UseIT interns?

What I recommend to future UseIT interns, during their summer research, is to learn how to establish a good communication method towards other interns in order to avoid possible unwanted assumptions that may inhibit the flow of a team project.

What is the atmosphere or working environment like?

The atmosphere and working environment requires some improvements to be made. With so many interns together in one lab with desks that are close together, it is difficult and distracting at times to work on research.

What is your overall impression of the facilities and equipment?

My overall impression of all facilties and equipment is high. I have had very few problems with my workstation and have frequently enjoyed working with many of the programs on it.

What have you done in the UseIT program this summer?

My contribution over the summer research was not programming but movie-making which is a beneficial portion of the program that can communicate most of the work done by the UseIT. I have also been a tester to SCEC-VDO while making movies and have developed an understanding of AVID Xpress, a proprietary editing software. Using Avid, I accomplishmed a movie that demonstrates an earthquake seqeunce over seven days as they appear on San Andreas/San Jacinto faults. This movie may hopefully be used by scientists to see relations to the foreshocks and aftershocks of a major quake.
