Workshop on the Southern California Velocity Model

Workshop on the Construction of Version 2 of the Southern California Velocity Model

When: Thursday, Nov. 19, 1998
Where: Caltech
Time: Approximately mid-morning to mid-afternoon

Organizers:

Rob Clayton, Caltech
Steve Day, SDSU
Harold Magistale, SDSU
Rob Graves, WCC

We are planning a workshop on the next version (Version 2) of
the Standard Velocity Model for Southern California. The focus of the
workshop will be on the details of how to incorporate the following
types of data and constraints into the new model:

1) 1D Sonic log velocity information.
2) 2D seismic stacking velocity and structure information.
3) Moho variations.
4) Upper mantle velocity model.
5) Gravity.
6) Tomographic (travel time) inversions.
7) A "geotechnical" top layer.
8) Extend detailed model to other areas such as Imperial Valley and the San
Diego region.
9) Error estimates of the model.
10) Topography.
11) Laboratory measurements.

Scientists interested in attending this workshop should contact Rob Clayton
at 'clay@gps.caltech.edu". A more detailed agenda will be emailed to those
that respond. If you signed the list that was circulated at the meeting in
Palm Springs, then you are already registered to receive email updates. We
would still however like to hear from you if you plan to attend the meeting.
